FAQs

Can anybody own a spa, regardless of where they live?
If you live somewhere with a hot climate then you might need to consider shade – either natural or man made. If you live in a cooler climate it is advisable to provide some shelter from the elements. Otherwise yes, spas are suitable for all situations.

How do I keep my spa water clean?
Check the positioning of trees and gutters so that leaves and debris won’t be blown into your spa. We also recommend, where possible, to have a path leading to your hot tub so that leaves and earth won’t be carried in by bathers’ feet. It is essential that you maintain your spa water with regular treatment which will vary depending on the model you select and your level of use.

Are there any special considerations to be made when I’m selecting where to put my spa?
Allow access to the service compartment. Our service engineers may need to have access to the equipment inside your spa. Therefore you need to plan the position of the spa to allow easy access.

How do I look after my spa?
All Spaform spas are completed with a filtration system designed to help maintain your spa water. This, coupled with regular testing and treating of the water will help keep your water clean and pure.

To ensure your spa remains at its best for as long as possible you should also:

  • Keep your spa covered
  • Drain your spa and carry out routine maintenance regularly (as indicated in your user manual)
  • Clean and treat your cabinet regularly, as required (wooden cabinets will require staining)

What are the running costs of a spa?
The running costs associated with your spa will of course depend on which spa you install – model, features, size, as well as your usage pattern. A well used spa will required more maintenance and will use more energy than a less frequently used spa.
Some of Spaform’s product features, including the hugely efficient ener-gard, help you minimise your spa’s typical running costs*.

* Running costs vary widely depending on model, usage, location and other factors.

What do I need to do to prepare for the installation of a Spaform spa?

Accessibility
It is important that on the day of delivery adequate access is available for your spa. We recommend that the delivery route be planned so there are no unexpected problems on the day.

Ventilation
If you have decided to place your spa inside, the room will need to be well ventilated. Spas give off a large amount of moisture when working which could damage walls and ceilings over time unless there is sufficient natural or forced ventilation.

Floor load
Wherever you decide to install your portable spa, it is essential that a solid foundation be provided. We recommend that your hot tub is placed on a concrete base a minimum of 10cm thick. Your dealer should advise you on this matter.
In the case of installing an in-ground model, a pit is needed to accommodate the concealed section, prepared to the dimensions as specified in the drawing. Again, your dealer should advise.

Plumbing
Check that the site selected can be reached by a garden hose for filling of the spa and, in the case of interior installation, that a connection can be made to the main drain for emptying.

Electricity
All hot tubs are to be permanently connected by a designated supply (hard wired) to the power source. Check the maximum power consumption of the model and make certain a registered contractor installs the supply and provides you with a certificate for the safe installation.
